The Active Investor Plus Visa category is intended to attract investors who take an active role in helping New Zealand companies access global knowledge networks, capital, and markets. On 1 April 2025, the old Investor 1 and 2 category are removed and no longer accepted by INZ.
Changes to the Active Investor Plus Visa included the introduction of 2 investment categories:
-Growth category: focuses on higher-risk investments, including managed funds and direct investments in New Zealand businesses. It will require a minimum investment of NZ$5 million for a minimum period of 3 years. -Balanced category: focuses on mixed investments, with the ability to choose ones that are lower risk. There will be a minimum investment of NZ$10 million over 5 years. To apply this visa, you must:-be a fit and proper person.-invest at least NZD $5 million if you invest under the Growth category or at least NZD $10 million if you invest under the Balanced category in acceptable investments in New Zealand.-transfer your investment funds to New Zealand through a banking system.-have earned or acquired your investment funds lawfully.-meet the other requirements of this residence visa. -pay application fees: NZ$27470. You don't have to: -show you have a business experience, -provide English language ability. You can: -include your partner and dependent children, aged 24 and younger, in your residence visa application. If INZ approve your application in principle (AIP), you will have 6 months to transfer and invest your funds in New Zealand. After your application has been approved in principle, you can apply for a work visa to come to New Zealand and arrange the transfer and investment of your funds. If your partner wants to come with you, they will need to apply for their own visitor visa. Your dependent children can apply for student visas. Once your funds have been transferred to New Zealand and invested in an acceptable investment, you and your family will be issued a multiple entry Resident Visa to be able to live, work and study in New Zealand for 4 years under the Growth category, and 6 years under the Balanced category. You can apply for a permanent residence visa after 3 years of keeping your funds in New Zealand if you invest under the Growth category, or after 5 years if you invest under the Balanced category. Spend time in New ZealandIf you apply for the Growth category you must spend at least 21 days in New Zealand as a holder of a resident visa during the 36 month investment period.
If you apply for the Balanced category you must spend at least 105 days in New Zealand as a holder of a resident visa during the 60 month investment period. However for each additional NZD $1 million you invest in acceptable Growth category investments, you can reduce the time required in New Zealand by 14 days. You can do this up to a maximum reduction of 42 days.

An acceptable investment for the Active Investor Plus Visa is an investment of the funds that:-is not for your personal use-is invested in New Zealand in New Zealand dollars (NZD), and-is on the following list of acceptable investments for either the Growth or Balanced category.
Growth category:You must invest at least NZD $5 million for the Growth category in acceptable investments in New Zealand.
Acceptable investments for Growth category can include:-direct investments, or-managed funds. Balanced category:You must invest at least NZD $10 million for the Balanced category in acceptable investments in New Zealand.
Acceptable investments for Balanced category can include:-direct investments-managed funds-listed equities-philanthropy-bonds, or-property developments. You can: use your own money other than the investment funds to buy residential or commercial properties in New Zealand, but you can't use your nominated investment funds to purchase existing properties.
