Working holiday visas allow young people from recognised countries to work and travel in New Zealand, normally for up to 12 months.
If you want to work or study while travellingWorking holiday visas are available to young people — normally aged 18 to 30, but 18 to 35 in a select few countries.
This type of visa lets you travel, work and study in New Zealand, generally for up to 12 months.
To apply, you must be a citizen of a country that has a working holiday agreement with New Zealand.Applying from New Zealand or overseas
All working holiday visas must be applied for online — and only if the visa is 'open' for applications.
In most cases, you can apply from any country, including from within New Zealand. However, some schemes require you to be in your home country when you apply. For example, you must be in China when you apply for the China Working Holiday Visa.
If you apply for a working holiday visa while in New Zealand, you may need to provide a medical certificate. If you plan to stay in New Zealand for more than 12 months (including time on visas other than a working holiday visa), you must have a chest X-ray and a general medical examination.

Chile Working Holiday Visa up to 12 monthsApply for this visa if you want to holiday, study and work in New Zealand. You must be aged 18 to 35 and a citizen of the Republic of Chile to work for any 1 employer for up to 6 months.• Visas available: Each year 940
To apply you must:• be aged 18 to 35• be a citizen of Chile, with a valid passport• not have had a working holiday visa for New Zealand before, even if you did not use it• be in good health• be of good character• have a genuine reason for coming to New Zealand• have at least NZD $4,200 to cover your living expenses• have full medical insurance for your stay• have plans to leave New Zealand at the end of your stay.
China Working Holiday Visa up to 12 monthsApply for this visa if you want to holiday, study and work in New Zealand. You must be aged 18 to 30 and a citizen of the People's Republic of China to work for any 1 employer for up to 6 months.• Visas available: Each year 1,000
To apply for this visa you must:• be aged 18 to 30• be a citizen of the People's Republic of China with a valid passport• normally live China• be living in China when you apply• not have had a working holiday visa for New Zealand before, even if you have not used it• have a senior high school qualification, and speak and understand English• be in good health• be of good character• have a genuine reason for coming to New Zealand• have at least NZD $4,200 to cover your living expenses• have full medical insurance for your stay• have plans to leave New Zealand at the end of your stay.
Hong Kong SAR Working Holiday Visa up to 12 monthsApply for this visa if you want to holiday, study and work in New Zealand. You must be aged 18 to 30 and a resident of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) to work for any 1 employer for up to 3 months.• Visas available: Each year 400
To apply for this visa you must:• be aged 18 to 30• be a resident of Hong Kong SAR, with a valid British National overseas passport or Hong Kong Special Administrative Region passport• not have had a working holiday visa for New Zealand before, even if you did not use it• be in good health• be of good character• have a genuine reason for coming to New Zealand• have at least NZD $4,200 to cover your living expenses• have full medical insurance for your stay• have plans to leave New Zealand at the end of your stay.
Malaysia Working Holiday Visa up to 6 monthsApply for this visa if you want to holiday, study and work in New Zealand. You must be aged 18 to 30 and a citizen of Malaysia to work in temporary jobs for up to 6 months.• Visas available: Each year 1,150
